# Updating

> Getting the latest version, without rebuilding from source.

<Note>This page concerns Ardoise School in the OHADA scope, subject to enabled modules and permissions. School, school accounting and payroll are not offered in Austria. Check local requirements; CountryConfig does not certify compliance.</Note>

Ardoise is distributed as a ready-to-use Docker image (`amesc/ardoise:latest`), rebuilt automatically for every new version - you never need to compile the source code yourself.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Pull the latest image">
    ```bash theme={null}
    docker compose pull
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Restart on the new version">
    ```bash theme={null}
    docker compose up -d
    ```

    On startup, the container automatically applies whatever database migrations are needed - no manual schema work required.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the running version">
    ```bash theme={null}
    curl http://localhost:8000/health/
    ```

    Returns `{"status": "ok", "version": "..."}`.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Your data survives every update and restart: it lives in Docker volumes
  (the school's database on one side, attached files on the other) and is never part
  of the image itself. See [Backups and restore](/en/guide-technique/sauvegardes) for exactly what
  a backup covers.
