# Video conferencing

> Built-in video calls: booked private lessons, admission interviews and conversations with families.

Ardoise builds video calls directly into the journeys where they are useful, without forcing anyone to install a third-party application or to swap a link over messaging.

## Where video conferencing is available

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Booked private lessons" icon="chalkboard-user">
    A tutoring contract agreed on the marketplace opens a video room reserved for the tutor, the parent who signed, and the pupil attached to that parent.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Admission interview" icon="user-plus">
    School staff can open the admission-request room; family entry to this room remains incomplete.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Conversation with a family" icon="phone">
    Authorised school staff can open the family-tracking room; parent invitation into that room is not a complete journey.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Between colleagues" icon="users">
    Any internal conversation can switch to a video call, from the conversation header.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Who can enter a room

This is the important point, and it does not rest on the secrecy of the link.

<Check>
  **The server decides the room, never the browser.** A participant asks to join a specific *contract*, *interview* or *conversation*; Ardoise checks that they are genuinely part of it, then builds the room identifier itself. There is no way to name an arbitrary room and gain access to it.
</Check>

| Type of call | Who is admitted |
| - | - |
| Private lesson | The tutor, the signing parent, and the pupil attached to that parent |
| Admission interview / family conversation | Staff of **the school concerned** only |
| A tutor's room | The tutor themselves, and the families holding a contract with them |
| Internal conversation | The **participants of that conversation**, nobody else |

<Warning>
  School-side rooms are partitioned by school. Two schools that each open a conversation about their own pupil carrying the same number never get the same room: the identifier is built from the requester's school, not from what they send.
</Warning>

<Note>
  There is no "invitation link" to pass around: someone outside the call who opens the address receives a refusal, not a waiting room.
</Note>

## During the call

* Video and audio, with screen sharing.
* A **low-bandwidth** mode, which turns off your own camera to cope with a weak connection, and
  restores it when you switch the mode off. Available on every type of call.

<Info>
  Session recording, a shared whiteboard and file sharing during the call are not
  part of Ardoise today. To pass on a document, use the conversation or
  the shared documents; to keep a record of an exchange, write a summary in the
  relevant file rather than waiting for an automatic recording.
</Info>

## Privacy

Audio/video uses the configured video service. Ardoise has no built-in recording and does not automatically transmit a complete school record into the call. Participants control what they display/share; this does not guarantee that a provider or participant never retains information.

Authorisation is granted by whoever knows the participants:

* for an **internal conversation**, it is your school's server that checks you are indeed a member of that conversation;
* for a **private lesson, an admission interview or a conversation with a family**, it is the Platform, which knows the contract or the school concerned.

Whatever is shared during a session (your screen) is shared by the person sharing it, for the duration of the session.

<Note>Calls require a configured video service. School admission/family rooms currently authorise the concerned school staff; they are not an end-to-end parent invitation into that room. Institute ownership does not grant entry to private parent/tutor calls. School functions concern OHADA, not Austrian schools.</Note>
